    Primary Objective:

    Develops, plans, and establishes the manufacturing process of assigned components and assemblies to ensure they meet established specifications. Ensures customer requirements are achieved and that parts are manufactured in a cost effective and timely manner. Assists with proposal preparation and estimating as needed.

    Major Areas of Accountability

    1. Develops Quality Driven, Cost Effective ProcessesDevelops quality processes and procedures for the cost effective manufacture of parts and assemblies. This is done in conformance with established specifications and customer requirements and in conjunction with Project Managers and production personnel.
      • Incorporates mistake proofing methods and processes into the procedures.
      • Will develop/utilize processes and procedures that allow for more unattended machining and probing.
      • Utilizes technology and processes to perform deburring in the workcenter and attempts to engineer out any ergonomic concerning areas.
      • Analyzes short- and long-term needs for the project.
      • Develops time standards for the jobs to be run in production and compare to the estimate.
      • Develops and maintains manufacturing documentation, including CAD drawings for cutting tools, jigs and fixtures.
      • Designs fixturing to facilitate machining and/or assembly operations.
      • Documents the production process in a manner that can be understood and implemented by production personnel.
      • May designate, modify and/or make recommendations for procurement of equipment necessary to produce parts and/or assemblies – should be captured in the proposal effort.
      • Offers input to operations on due date to ensure that engineering is complete before manufacturing begins.
    2. Input and Maintenance of Manufacturing Plan in ERP System
      • Responsible for accurate input of the manufacturing plan into Global Shop (ERP) and maintenance of the following key elements of the system:
        • Inventory parts
        • Product structure
        • Routings
        • Creation and maintenance of orders
        • Configuration control (engineering changes etc.)
        • Incorporate Job closing updates, improvements, CARs for repeat projects
      • Continuous Cost Improvement
        • Responsible for continuous cost improvement ideas and implementation.
        • Analyzes machining and assembly cycle times to provide continuous cost reductions.
      • Project Coordination
        • Makes recommendations and directs changes to achieve improvement.
        • Coordinates the activities on assigned projects.
        • Provides analysis of machining and assembly cycle times to determine cost effectiveness of the project.
        • Determines the nature of “out of spec” problems in the manufacturing process and works with others to resolve:
          • May communicate with the customer regarding the resolution of the problem.
          • Provides engineering support to the production personnel.
          • Assists in the development of tooling design and redesign to reduce manufacturing costs to improve quality.
        • Evaluates tools and equipment to determine if they can be used in the manufacturing process and recommends the purchase of appropriate tools and equipment, i.e., tooling, calibration equipment, machining and assembly peripherals.
        • Communicates effectively on the status of projects to the Operations Manager and works cooperatively with other company personnel to achieve the completion of the project on time and within cost constraints.
        • Assists Project Managers by providing information on the technical aspects of projects to assure appropriate proposals on projects and status to customers.
        • Responsible for the installation and debugging of equipment and tooling for the project.
      • Project Documentation
        • Prepares appropriate, detailed documentation related to the project.
        • Documents and implements engineering changes initiated by the customer or internally.
        • May develop tooling design and redesign with supervisors to reduce manufacturing costs and/or improve quality.
        • Develops and maintains a rapport with customers and employees to ensure that projects are completed smoothly and effectively.
      • N/C Programs
        • May be responsible for the development of CNC programs and verify for completeness.
        • Should supply the N/C Programmer with complete machining plan, including any special cutting tools or fixtures required, and mistake proofing ideas.
        • May utilize CAD models in the generation of CNC programs.
        • May coordinate efforts to ensure CNC programs are complete and verified before the scheduled start date.
      • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    May direct the activities of others working on the assigned project

    Position Requirements

    Essential Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s degree in manufacturing/mechanical engineering or a related field with a minimum of two years of relevant experience, or a two-year post high school diploma/certificate and a minimum of six years relevant experience
    • Experience with CAD/CAM systems utilizing solid modeling
    • Proficient PC Skills in a Windows environment
    • Ability to travel, including air, occasionally overnight

    The most qualified candidate will also possess the following

    • Experience developing CNC programs
    • Experience with special processes, i.e., plating, welding, heat treat, etc.
    • Knowledge and/or experience in the design and selection of fixturing and tooling for complex parts
    • Previous experience in the machining industry, job shop machining preferred
    • Experience conducting process capability studies
    • Experience optimizing processes to achieve ongoing cost reductions
    • Experience with ISO quality systems and World Class Manufacturing principles
    • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to perform engineering calculations related to machining
    • Ability to determine the nature of problems in processes
    • Experience with ERP systems

    Office II

    • Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer
    • Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about occasionally
    • Lift, move or otherwise transfer items up to 30 lbs. occasionally
    • Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards
    • Travel by air or car occasionally
